We’ve also found some wonderful free tutorials that you can knock up just in time for the weekend.
So, fire up your sewing machine, and let’s make this Mother’s Day extra special!
On page 18 our resident seamstress Jeanette Archer talks us through the basics of appliqué. You can use it to add your own unique motif to a quick-make cushion, accessory or garment to really personalise your present.
This handy super-sized shopping tote can be found on page 52. Project by Simply Solids.
With its clever wording design made from a fine glitter sheet, you could even write your mum’s name or a sweet message meant just for them. Not only is this bag sewn with love but it’s a whole lot prettier than your typical bag for life!
If you are feeling more daring why not try your hand at a pouffe cover? This project on page 48 is a great way to add extra seating to the lounge and makes a lovely footrest so your mum can relax and put her feet up! Consider your mum’s living room furniture first to decide on a colour which will co-ordinate well with her home. Project by Elspeth Jackson.
In Issue 6 we dedicate a whole article to mother and daughter pattern sewing picks on page 28. Jessica Abbott from Me Sew Crazy has a free tutorial to make matching shorts – how cute are these? You could make the larger pair as a pyjama bottom Mother’s Day gift.
We also stumbled across this amazing project idea. There is no sewing involved but we couldn’t resist! How about dyeing a throw cushion using the ice-dye method, giving each cushion a completely unique design! Follow the link to for easy step-by-step instructions from Me Sew Crazy
